A school ready for a new school year
To mark the start of the new school year, ICOMET Group looks back on a major renovation project carried out at a special education school in La Louvière.
Completed for Wust, the project involved the manufacture and installation of 125 fixed and opening windows, 27 single, double and sliding doors, as well as approximately 340 glazing units.
The aluminium joinery, including Reynaers aluminium thresholds and finishing profiles, was designed to combine functionality, comfort and thermal performance.
Thermal performance for greater comfort
The average thermal performance of the windows, doors and sliding elements is approximately 1.5 W/m²K.
More specifically, the windows achieve Uw values ranging from 1.3 to 1.8 W/m²K, while the doors have Ud values ranging from 1.3 to 1.6 W/m²K. The sliding elements achieve a Ucw value of 1.7 W/m²K.
Solar control glazing was also installed on the south-facing façade to reduce the amount of solar heat entering the building and help improve indoor comfort.
A project at height
In addition to the performance requirements of the aluminium joinery, installation presented a significant technical challenge.
Some windows and glazing units had to be installed at a height of more than 6 metres. Handling and installation required the use of a crane and a Glassboy mounted on a spider crane.
An operation of this kind requires careful preparation, precision and close coordination between all parties involved.
Working while the school remained operational
The work was carried out from September 2025 to May 2026.
Part of the installation was scheduled during school holidays, but the teams also had to work while the school remained operational.
In a special education school attended by children every day, this required careful organisation and particular attention to safety, accessibility and the coordination of the different phases of the project.
From manufacturing to installation
For this project, ICOMET Group was responsible for both the manufacture and installation of the aluminium joinery.
With 125 windows, 27 doors and approximately 340 glazing units, combined with significant handling and organisational challenges, the La Louvière project demonstrates ICOMET Group’s ability to manage large-scale aluminium joinery projects, from manufacturing through to on-site installation.
